The SwiftUI 2025 release has arrived and includes some of the most notable updates since the launch of the framework. Abandoning a design system, providing more powerful tools, and offering lots of performance options, this release helps developers take more control of the framework with less complexity.
Here are the three major features that are sure to transform the way you build applications.
1. Liquid Glass: The Complete New Design Aesthetic
Apple announced an entirely new visual aesthetic called Liquid Glass, and it’s much more than visual impact. This significantly changes the user’s experience, or ‘feel’, in how your apps work.
Liquid Glass adds depth, transparency, and movable motion to your UI and makes everything feel new and alive. Subtle blurs can now be applied to your buttons, sidebars, and nav bars with a single line of code.
Although not a design element for iOS only, it is available for iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro and can be used for Apple Watch apps. It’s clean and quick and keeps your app modern without having to design and customise your desktop version of an app.
2. Rich Text and WebView Built-In Support
Two highly requested features are now officially part of SwiftUI:
Rich Text: You can now create bold, italic, coloured or even linked text within TextEditor. No libraries required.
WebView: You can now display web content (html) in your SwiftUI app. You can load websites, run javascript or build hybrid experiences without UIKit hacks.
These additions allow you to build modern and flexible interfaces while never leaving SwiftUI.
3. Smarter Layouts and Better Tools
SwiftUI 2025 allows your app layouts to adapt better to different screens, orientations, and platforms. No more struggling with stacks or grids. Layouts now automatically change with simple code.
On the tools side, Xcode 26 includes a new SwiftUI performance profiler. You can see what is making your views slow, track unwanted updates, and fix performance issues before your users ever see a problem.
Why This is Important
SwiftUI 2025 isn’t a minor update. It’s a clear indicator that Apple is serious about SwiftUI being the future of app development. It’s easier, more powerful, and better yet, ready for even the most demanding applications.
