AI in Creative Industries | How It’s Changing Writing and Design

Let’s be real. We are living in a renaissance of AI! Whatever you’re doing, whether it’s writing, designing, or creating videos, there are many superpower tools that are making your life faster, easier, and possibly more enjoyable than it should be! I thought I would do a little breakdown to clarify what makes each of them so powerful, how they work and what they have empowered to do.

ChatGPT: The AI that writes with you, not for you.

First, the one that is most likely to be publicised. ChatGPT. You can think of ChatGPT as the best brainstorming partner on the planet. You enter content; it could be a website intro, a code snippet, or something as simple as help me with ten present ideas for a sci-fi fan. And the response comes back sounding a bit too human. But what makes ChatGPT special is that it’s not just about responding to questions. It’s about collaboration.

Used ChatGPT to write article outlines, to rewrite improper emails, to generate product ideas, and even argued with it as if it were a customer. Although it doesn’t always attempt to give the right answer, it’s a great tool if you need a place to start or a fresh creative boost. Not permanent! And with the newish versions, it can even understand images, documents and voice – yes, now you can talk to it.

Midjourney: Words to Images

If ChatGPT is your writing partner, then Midjourney is your visual partner. This AI tool from text to image has you covered. Do you have an idea for a logo? Need a fantasy world? A cyberpunk cat wearing sunglasses? You tell the AI yourself how you imagine something, and Midjourney will provide you with a variety of visualisations that you would think a professional creator created when you look over a creator portfolio.

Midjourney is not only amazing for artists or designers, but it can also be useful for presentation or branding boards or just generating aesthetic ideas before hiring a designer. You may not be at all a visual thinker, but Midjourney can lead you to be a visual thinker.

Synthesia: Video Creation Without Cameras

Now, let’s get into Synthesia… quite possibly the best tool I have ever used. You can create a video with the appearance of a professional-level production by simply typing a script. Choose a human-like presenter (an avatar), choose a voice, choose a language, paste in your script, and BOOM! Within a matter of minutes, a high-quality video is created.

It’s insane.

To make short explainer videos, demo presentations and mock product pitches. What really amazes me about Synthesia is how human-like the AI presenters appear and ignite sound when performing. True, it doesn’t quite reach Hollywood actor levels (yet!). But for training, internal communications, or social media content, it’s good enough. And saves you a great amount of time that you would have spent filming, editing and recording voiceovers.

The Bigger Picture

What I’ve learnt while using these tools is this.  AI doesn’t replace creativity; it encourages you to get past the blank page, helps you get to a “first draft” quicker, and helps you focus on the bigger ideas instead of the small things. If you’re a solo entrepreneur, a member of a creative team, or just a person who likes to experiment with technology, tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Synthesia are worth trying out.

Are they perfect? No. Do they sometimes look a bit weird? Yes. But they’re getting smarter with each update, they’re getting more user-friendly, and they’re becoming more fun to use.

And if I’m being honest? The future of creativity is looking pretty interesting with AI in the co-pilot’s seat.
